Esteemed Colleague,

Too often, leadership is viewed as a position rather than a practice—something tied to a title rather than a way of engaging with others to drive meaningful change. In today’s rapidly shifting educational landscape, that perspective is proving insufficient.

It's time to shift toward distributed leadership, where leadership is shared across networks of educators, students, and families. To learn more about the why, how, and impact of distributed leadership, check out my latest blog on the topic. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic, so reply directly to this email if you feel motivated to do so!

With anticipation for our shared journey,

AI AND THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION

Sharing two resources worth bookmarking

AI in Education

It's been exciting to see different areas of collective action throughout the education space over the last year. I wanted to highlight two new resources from those spaces that are worth your attention. First up is AI in Education—a collection of articles from leading educators and researchers supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in partnership with Etika Insights.

I was honored to contribute to this collection with my piece on 4 Checkpoints For Integrating AI In K-12 Education. As I note in the article's introduction, "Understanding how to effectively incorporate AI tools into our learning communities, so we can take advantage of the opportunities these tools provide (and mitigate the challenges), is every educator and administrator’s responsibility." This isn't a topic we can ignore, and I hope these four checkpoints serve as a helpful guide for your community's work moving forward.

The Third Horizon of Learning

Sujata Bhatt, founder of Incubate Learning, and Mason Pashia of Getting Smart authored and published a microsite that beautifully organizes a collection of articles on "The Third Horizon of Learning." This series was made possible by LearnerStudio.

Katie Martin and I shared our own piece back in October on Centering Learners by Design: Shaping the Future of Education. This article showcases a variety of learner-centered examples from California to Kentucky and emphasizes, "by redesigning public schools around the principles of flexibility, personalization, and community engagement, we can build a system where every student has the opportunity to succeed."

Be sure to bookmark these resources so you can engage with them at multiple points throughout your learner-centered journey. Sometimes, they will be sources of inspiration and insight, and other times, they will serve as a reminder of how far your community has already come!
