This week we brought our Learner-Centered Collaborative partners together from across the country to share their journey to inclusive and equitable learner-centered education. We have partners that range from micro-schools in Colorado like Embark Education, to districts like Logan County, and State partnerships like the Utah State Board of Education. As I listened to their stories, I was struck by the diversity in context and how each partner’s journey reflected their uniqueness yet the passion, goals, and impact shared so many similarities.
As each leader shared about their journey, I heard comments that punctuated elements and vulnerabilities that aren’t always talked about, such as:
“I made a mistake and here is what I would do differently…”
“I thought that it would be easier if I did it myself, but I learned I needed to involve more people along the way.”
“The process has been messy and we are all in different places and I am learning that is ok.”
My Bright Spot this week is a shout-out to the leaders who are embracing the challenges that come with change, leaning into the discomfort, and sharing their mistakes to help others along the journey.
With Gratitude,
Katie
