At Odyssey Leadership Academy in Oklahoma City, the educational model is centered on students' flourishing in the classroom and attending to their well-being. One of the ways that they foster flourishing is through their Mastery Program. Scott Martin, the executive director shared:
“Each student is phenomenally capable of deep, creative, and meaningful work that comes from their passions and interests. Our favorite question to ask students is, 'What do you want to do?' We take their responses seriously and creatively, working with each other to imagine how to make their passion possible."
At the end of each semester, Odyssey holds a Celebration of Learning. They convene together to celebrate with the community, families, and partners in the learning process. Instead of cramming for exams, students create original spoken word pieces, speeches, artwork, and elaborate and deeply researched projects that mirror what they have learned in their courses.
