Dear Educator,

Authentic leaders not only inspire others—they lead by example. As Brené Brown shares,

“Across the private and public sector, in schools and in our communities, we are hungry for authentic leadership – we want to show up, we want to learn, and we want to inspire and be inspired. We are hardwired for connection, curiosity, and engagement.”

I have had the opportunity to connect with some of the most amazing leaders this week at the League of Innovative Schools convening and it reminds me that the best leaders are great not because they are all the same, but because they are authentic. When leaders know and lead from their strengths, interests, and values, they can meaningfully engage and inspire others to do amazing things.

This week, I want to highlight the power of leaders exploring their strengths, interests, and values to grow as authentic and impactful leaders.

Compass Leadership Profiles

Catina Hancock, VP of Strategic Partnerships at Learner-Centered Collaborative, kicked off a Leadership Pathway with our partner school Compass Charter Schools this week, and I loved seeing the leadership profiles that were created. Each leader had the opportunity to participate in self-assessments, explore resources, and reflect to highlight what they bring to the table. Check out some of these profiles.

We are often at our best as a learning community when we recognize and value our individuality and work together as a team to elevate our strengths for the benefit of all those we serve. If we want people to be authentic and show up as their best selves, we would benefit from creating a space where all of us can identify and build on our strengths.
