Dear Educator,

I’m on vacation this week spending some much needed time unwinding with my family. As I have been lounging by the pool, I have been reading the latest volume of Because of a Teacher, curated by George Couros, and am loving it. There are so many incredibly inspiring stories of the first years of teaching in this book.

The chapter by Kheila Dunkerly particularly resonated with me:

“It took a while to really understand that education is a team sport. Each person brings something to the team, and the strengths make the team better.”

I love how Dunkerly acknowledges the importance of collaboration. As educators, we are too often isolated, and yet, we are so much better together.

BRIGHT SPOT OF THE WEEK

Tapping into the Incredible Resources Around Us

This past week, I was able to connect with both administrators and teachers at the CLAS conference in Alabama and the Personalized Learning Institute in North Dakota. I was inspired by the educators I met who are committed to collaborating, learning, and creating the best possible learning experiences for students and fellow teachers.

As Megan Margerum, North Dakota 2022 Teacher of the year shared:

“Surround yourself with people who believe in change and get after it wholeheartedly.”

Amazing teachers with vast experience and content knowledge exist in our schools and are often the most untapped resources. When you create opportunities to tap into the rich knowledge base in your community, everyone grows together.

1. ISTE Live 2022 session picks. I will be at the ISTE conference next week with the Learner-Centered Collaborative team and we are looking forward to connecting with you! Here is a list of sessions that we are planning to attend.
