Your weekly source of learner-centered inspiration
Dear Educator,
The end of the school year is upon us and there are a lot of feelings. It is a busy time of the year and I was reminded last week how important it is to make time to reflect and celebrate the learning and growth. Celebrating student achievements can help them see what they have accomplished and boost confidence and motivation. It also helps educators to see the fruits of their labor and raise their motivation, too.

BRIGHT SPOT OF THE WEEK
Raising the bar to discover what learners are truly capable of
Last week I visited Logan County Schools in Kentucky. I have had the honor of working with a team of LC Innovators to develop their Profile of Success, identify grade level progressions, and co-design their defense of learning process over the last 4 years. I got to serve as a panelist for the 5th and 8th grade defenses of learning and it was really special to see the students talking about how they are empowered learners, effective communicators, global citizens, innovators, and collaborators. I saw almost 40 students across the district at 4 schools and I was blown away by their poise, examples, and growth over time.
Although seeing the students was of course the highlight, seeing the teachers beaming at what their students accomplished was a close second. Although the teachers are tired and overwhelmed at the end of the year, they all shared how proud they were, how they learned so much about their students throughout the process, and how the final outcomes exceeded expectations. Once again, we see that when we raise the bar and provide support and guidance, we see what young people are capable of.
