Dear Educator,
When we focus on the good and celebrate it, we can change a person’s outlook, cultivate relationships, and spread more love in our schools and communities. Although there are many challenges that I don’t want to downplay, there are many reasons to be grateful if we are open to them.
Maybe it’s a teacher next door who made you smile, a student who has shown progress, a parent who wants to partner with you, or an administrator who made space for extra planning time. Maybe it’s your family, your friends, a warm cup of coffee, or a pause to watch the sunset. There are moments—big and small—that we can be grateful for. As Brene Brown says, “Don’t squander joyful moments.” Use them to feed your soul and elevate others. This is a reminder to myself as much as it is to all of us—to embrace vulnerability and not just feel grateful but express gratitude to create more happiness in our own lives and the lives of others.
So today, the Bright Spot is YOU. I want to share my gratitude for this community. Thank you to the learners who are trying their best, educators who meet young people where they are, and administrators who are creating the conditions to grow learner-centered communities.
Wishing you all health, joy, and a grateful heart.
With Gratitude,
Katie
