Dear Educator,

As we head into the winter break, I am looking forward to rest, family, and, as always, some reflection around goals for 2022. I hope that you get what you need as well!

I have learned so much this year from our Learner-Centered Collaborative team and growing partner network. I am amazed by their work in 2021, and I look forward to what 2022 holds. A special shout-out to our friends in Kentucky–our hearts are with you as you recover and rebuild.

I want to use the final Bright Spot of the year to amplify our partners as they share their learning.

Celebrating What We've Learned This Year

In many different ways, the learners across our partner network continue to inspire us with their courage and vulnerability as they share and evolve in their practice.

Here are a few examples of our partner network sharing their learning:

Lindsay Unified School District had 20 leaders, including their amazing superintendent Tom Rooney, engage in a Learner-Centered Leadership Pathway, and each leader created and shared their proposal for change. I can’t wait to see the impact in 2022!

Spark Online Academy launched as a new school this year and hosted their first showcase of learning for students, teachers, and their administration. I was lucky enough to join in person to see the inspiring work that learners shared, as well as their commitment to feedback and growth.

Utah Board of Education leaders deepened their understanding of agency as they took key concepts and new learning and applied it to their work. It was exciting to see them emerge from the productive struggle and share their ideas with their colleagues.

Taking the extra step and celebrating your learning is a critical piece of making the work authentic and relevant. I am inspired by our partners as they take the time to highlight the work that transpired this year, and I look forward to the continued progress and innovation within our learner-centered community.

RESOURCE ROUNDUP

Below are some resources to support you in your journey to prioritize what matters most and empower all learners.

1. #ShareYourLearning. Join the national Share Your Learning movement to transform schools into places where students can communicate, collaborate and contribute. Access tools and resources to empower your students to have agency over their learning.

2. 7 learner-centered priorities. As we reflect on this past year, we look to what matters most for creating a better way forward. Devin Vodicka and I share our lessons and reflections from a learner-centered year in our blog post.

3. Resources to run your own PL session. Dive in to strategies and models for creating more personalized, blended learning experiences, and access resources to run your own professional learning session on "Learning From One Another" now available for free on the TxLx blog.
