Happy Spring!

This week, I am headed to Atlanta to see our team for our Learner-Centered Collaborative retreat! I can’t wait to be in the same room with everyone to connect and collaborate face-to-face. I have seen the same joy of many others at recent conferences I’ve attended for the first time since many were canceled in March 2020. I am personally looking forward to ASU + GSV in April. I will be on a panel for Centering and Amplifying Student Voice and Choice on Monday April 4th from 4:40-5:20 pm PT. I’d love a chance to connect if you’ll be there.

In addition to conferences, I have also been able to be in schools much more this year. My Bright Spot this week highlights progress in connecting with the community to redefine success through a Graduate Profile.

Redefining Success Through a Graduate Profile

I have been working with the Butler County School District outside of Pittsburgh this year to create a Graduate Profile for their schools. I had the opportunity to facilitate an in-person meeting with the community, educators, and administrators to align on the desired learner outcomes and desired competencies.

One of the key reflections that educators had as we discussed the broader metrics of success was: “If we change the outcomes, we have to align the learning experiences and the resources to get there.” This is exactly the learner-centered shift that we are seeing in education right now and I couldn't be more encouraged! Based on the desired outcomes, educators then had powerful discussions about what they should continue, what they should stop and what they should evolve. Check out some of these reflections. Creating a Graduate Profile is a powerful tool for educators, but only if it is used to drive learning experiences, resources, and conditions that help to achieve the desired outcomes.
