Your weekly source of learner-centered inspiration
Dear Educator,
I recently got to spend my day at Lewisburg K-8 school in Logan County, Kentucky. As we met with groups of teachers throughout the day, the need to constantly navigate new and different challenges while also being flexible was front and center. In spite of it all, I am so inspired by the teachers who navigate through the uncertainty, yet continue to show up motivated to do what they can to meet the needs of the learners they serve. Additionally, to the leaders who are jumping in to do all they can to cover classes, lunch duty and more, I see you, and I appreciate you too. Thank you!
I could highlight thousands of Bright Spots from my day with teachers, which is a testament to all that is happening in schools right now. This week, I'm sharing how one school uses intervention to meet learners where they are.
With Gratitude, Katie
BRIGHT SPOT OF THE WEEK
The Importance of Connection
As so many kids need more support and guidance to fill the gaps that have been exacerbated throughout the pandemic, more time, money and resources have been devoted to intervention. Although there are programs that can help, I couldn’t agree more with Joshua Matthew, Principal at Lewisburg School, as he coached teachers, saying “There must be a human element to intervention.” As we visited classrooms, we observed: team teaching, differentiated stations, peer collaboration, and intervention time designed to meet each learner where they are.
This week was a great reminder that as we evolve in our education practices, human guidance and connection matter more than ever.
